History of the SNARE System
SNARE was developed by Intersect Alliance, a team of leading information
technology security specialists, who have extensive experience in not
only the technical aspect of IT Security but also policy..
Intersect Alliance, having dealt with the complexities and effectiveness
of event log collection tools, developed the first auditing and event
logging software for the open source Linux Operating system. The tool
was to provide administrators with the ability to monitor their information
technology resources for incidents that may show a compromise on their
organization security policy.
This grew to include additional tools for Windows, Solaris, AIX and
more. The tools, SNARE Agents, are open source and freely available
to use under the GNU - General Public License. They are in fact widely
used globally.
With the popularity of the SNARE Agents, a commercialized toolwas developed
- the SNARE Server. The agents by themselves provide a great deal of
benefit to all who use them. However there was also a need to provide
a method to collect, analyze, collate, etc for a heterogeneous network
that was cost effective, easy to install/use, and provide the reports
that were required for auditing purposes.
